2016 is the 75th Anniversary of Wonder Woman! She has been an iconic figure in pop culture since December 1941, when she first appeared in All Star Comics #8. The character is a founding member of the Justice League, a demigoddess and a warrior princess of the Amazons. Wonder Woman was created by writer William Moulton Marston, his wife Elizabeth Holloway Marston and artist H.G. Peter. The inspiration for the character came from the early feminists such as Margaret Sanger.

Extraordinarily gifted in hunting and fighting, her superpowers are usually attributed to gifts given to her by the Greek Gods. Originally depicted fighting the Axis military forces of World War-II, the Princess Diana of Themyscira has evolved into a champion for women all around the world. In 2016, the UN named Wonder Woman a Honorary Ambassador for the Empowerment of Women and Girls.

Since her comic debut, Wonder Woman has evolved into a franchise of television shows, animated series, and, more recently, her first feature film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. On June 2, 2017 her first solo live-action film Wonder Woman will be released.

In 2001, Pérez returned to the character, co-writing a two-part story in issues #168-169.
