Chris Chavis aka Tatanka was born in Pembroke, N.C.; home of the Lumbee Native American Tribe. Attended Bethel High School, Hampton, Va. & graduated with honors and was elected in Who’s Who Among American High School Students both Junior and Senior years. This included only the top 5% of the nation’s students.

Enrolled in the Army ROTC program for 3 years and his Junior year was promoted to the highest rank of Command Sargent Major and received a Citizenship Award. Senior year he was promoted to the highest rank of Colonel and received an automatic scholarship to The West Point Academy. Was voted by the ROTC program as The Best Athlete.

Played High School Football all 3 years and in 1976 Bethel High School Bruins became State AAA Champions. Voted Most Valuable Lineman & Voted in All City Honors both Junior and Senior years. Also team member of the Bethel High School Track Team, both indoor and outdoor track and also in 1976 the Track Team became the State AAA Champions. Tatanka was honored to play part of (2) State AAA Championships both in Football & Track.

From 1982 to 1988 he won many NPC Bodybuilding Contests Nationwide and began working in 1985-1990 for Bally’s Health and Tennis Corp. Worked his way to Divisional Manager and managed a 70,000 sq. ft. club and became Bally’s Top Producer writing $100,000/month personally in memberships (Million Dollar Producer) and being responsible for $400,000-500,000/month for the club corporately.

In 1989, Chris Chavis pursued the dream of becoming a Professional Wrestler at World Wrestling Federation/WWE. The Legend and Hall of Famer “Nature Boy Buddy Rogers” was his first contact into the sport. Attended Larry Sharpe’s “Monster Factory” and had his 1st pro match against Joe Thunderstorm in Philadelphia, Pa. on January 13, 1990 on a WWA card and marked up his first professional win. In 1-yr after making the decision to follow the dream of becoming a Professional Wrestler at WWE his dream became a reality when WWE contacted him to appear at one of their taped television shows. From 1991 to 2010 Tatanka has appeared on WWE TV Programming and LIVE Events Worldwide!

Bragging rights

Holds a record winning streak that lasted 2 yrs in the WWF/WWE without 1 defeat. Defeated Shawn Michaels twice when he was holding the Intercontinental Championship and also defeated him on the greatest entertainment stage of all, #WrestleMania 9, Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas, Nevada. On November 2010, WWE honored Tatanka on WWE “Old School” RAW as a WWE Legend!
